For translators

Sonkeigo provides translations in more than 80 language pairs. The workload and clients’ wishes tend to vary, therefore from time to time, new translators are welcomed to join our team of freelancers. We are for a humane, mutually respectful relationship and a responsible attitude to work. We take language very seriously, and we believe that beautiful language makes the world better and that it is equally important in a vacuum cleaner’s user manual and in a translation of a classic literary work. Collaboration terms and conditions

Our requirements

  • A university degree in philology, translation, or related area and job experience in the translator’s profession.
  • Ability to work with dictionaries, and termbases and to look for information.
  • Knowledge of CAT tools.
  • Responsible attitude to work.
  • Professional and responsive communication.
  • NB! For the application to be considered it must be written in good English and accompanied by a CV that proves your compliance with the requirements.

Process of work

  • A freelance translator’s workload is varying. It depends on the demand, language pair, specialization, and the translator’s availability.
  • Information about translation jobs is sent by e-mail. When a translator accepts the job, we confirm it by issuing a PO - a document that includes the deadline, agreed payment, and special instructions, if there are any.
  • Communication about any work-related questions is carried out via e-mail during standard working hours.

Payment order

  • Payables to freelance translators are calculated according to the number of words in the source text, the rate is set by the translator.
  • Usually, payments are made for all translations done during a month, based on the translator’s invoice.
  • When possible we respect translators’ wishes regarding payment terms. If there are no specific wishes, then the invoice is paid 30 days after receipt.
  • Payments are made to the bank or Paypal account specified in the invoice.
